Shepards Pie

  • 1 Brown onion (diced)
  • 3 tbsp Olive oil
  • 500 g Minced meat
  • 1 Carrot (large)
  • 2 Celery sticks (diced)
  • 1 cup Peas & corn
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp Flour
  • 750 ml Vegetable stock
  • 1 tbsp Stock powder (chicken or vegetable)
  • 1 tsp Italian herbs
  • ½ cup Tomato sauce
  • 4-5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 kg Mashed potato


  • In a pot heat the olive oil and sauté the onion until soft. Add the mince meat and cook. Add the carrot and the celery and cook for a further two minutes. Continue on to add the tomato paste and the flour. Cook for roughly 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Gradually add the vegetable stock. Proceed to add the peas, corn, garlic, spices, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce and seasoning. Allow to come to the boil and boil on medium heat for 30 minutes until it has thickened.
  • Once the mixture has thickened, add it to the pie dish and allow to cool before covering it in a layer of mashed potato. Set the oven to grill and allow to cook for 5 to 10 minutes until golden and crunchy.
